2009 Mock Draft

ROUND ONE

1. Detroit (0-16)--A. Curry LB-- I am still sticking with Curry. I know Stafford is becoming a major lean, but I still think that Curry is the Best NFL player in this draft. Plus the Lions defense has been soooo bad for years they need to address this issues first IMHO. If, they pick Stafford first, they will have to follow that pick with the best OT on the board, and that means they won't pick a defensive player till round # 2. Yikes!!!! At 250+ pounds, Curry can play the MLB in a 4-3 defense. Aaron Curry and Ernie Simms can can learn from Peterson to become a very good LB unit. The Lions can fill the DT(Jerry, Hood, Brace, Moala) /OT(Britton, Beatty, A. Smith) needs with the 20th & 33rd picks. Please feel free to rip me over this pick, But I want Mr. Curry in Detroit!!!

2. St. Louis (2-14)--J. Smith OT-- The Rams will be selecting an OT with this pick, if they keep it. Rams are shopping this pick very hard right now with no current buyers.

3. Kansas City (2-14)--B.J. Raji DT--The best run stopper in the draft. KC's defense needs help, and BJ fiils that need. The drug tes issue now seems to be false, which means B.J. goes to the top of the draft.

4. Seattle (4-12)-- M. Sanchez QB--I think Seahawks are slow playing this pick. They want a QB and I think they rate Sanchez higher than Stafford. This is another trade opening spot. But, I really think they go and get their guy! No rumors or reason, but just a guess.

5. Cleveland (4-12)--B. Orakpo DE--Brian will help out Big Baby(if he stays). The Browns need pass rush help!!!(Same) Orakpo is high on everybody's draft board. He is a stud!!

6. Cincinnati (4-11-1)--E. Monroe OT--The big guy falls just a little here, but the Bengals are excited!!! Eugene fills a huge need for the Bengals. Carson Palmer has a big smile on his face!!!

7. Oakland (5-11)--M. Crabtree WR-- The Raiders always go for a splash!! They have huge needs on the OL, but the crazy old man cannot help himself with pick. That makes a QB, RB, and WR have been taken the last 3 first rounds picks.

8. Jacksonville (5-11)--J. Maclin WR-- The Jags are very happy on this pick. This might be a spot that a team(Jets, Bucs, Vikes) jumps up to get a QB.

9. Green Bay (6-10)--T. Jackson DE-- The Packer's get a stud DE here. Green Bay has to feel good about all the DE's on the board. One will fall to them for sure. Stopping the run in the NFC North(AP, Forte, Smith) is a must!!!!

10. San Francisco (7-9)-- M. Stafford QB--***The NFL DRAFT starts right here.*** The top 9 players are pretty locked in. Da Beras old MLB might take some help on the defensive side of the ball, or they will trade this pick to a number of different teams. Which include: Detroit, Tampa, or Denver. They just resigned Smith(QB) to a new deal, so this pick might not happen. Which makes the Denver pick at 12 very interesting.(Same)

11. Buffalo (7-9)--E. Brown DE--Bills fill a need and get a very good player. Brown could go higher, but the Bills are very excited that he doesn't.

12. Denver (8-8)--A. Maybin DE--This pick could be all over the place. I can see them trading up to #8 and choose Stafford. They will look defense they keep it.

13. Washington (8-8)--L. English OLB/DE--Larry will give the skins some versatility at DE/LB. This helps fill the void of Jason Taylor.

14. New Orleans (8-8)--M. Jenkins CB--A slow 40 time has drooped his value some, but he is a very good football player, and Jenkins will make a big impact on defense. Passing in the "Big Easy" just a more difficult!

15. Houston (8-8)--R. Maualuga MLB--Rey's stock has dropped a bit, but he is still a heck of a football player. Texans are starting to look like a playoff team.

16. San Diego (8-8)--M. Oher OT-- The Bolts draft on the "Best Available" at this point. Oher is a very good OT, and will start somewhere on the OL.

17. New York Jets (9-7)--C. Wells RB--The J-E-T-S, jets, jets, jets love this pick. Wells is the next Eddie George. Health issues are a small concern, but Wells always showed up for the big games. The Jet fans will be very happy!!!! (Same)

18. Denver(8-8)-- A. Smith OT- The Broncos cannot pass on this kind of talent at # 18. Smith was the overall # 1 for weeks before January. Plus Kyle Orton needs some protection.

19. Tampa Bay (9-6)--P. Harvin WR-- The Bucs are not very happy at this point of the draft. I am sure they will try and move around to land a QB. Josh Freeman would shock the world right here, but i do not think that will happen. They play it safe and take a local star in Percy.

20. Detroit (from Dallas) (9-7)--P. Jerry DT-- My Lions fill a HUGE hole in their defensive front by taking Jerry. This pick goes my thought process of defense, defense, defense! The Lions have so many needs and filling the DT with second rated DT player is pretty good. The front 7 does not look that bad now!

21. Philadelphia (9-6-1)--W. Beatty OT-- The Eagles get help on the OL. They might go skill position here(WR, RB).

22. Minnesota (10-6)--R. Ayers DE-- The Vikes do pretty good here. I like Robert a ton and the Lions might take him a few spots higher. Ayers will give the Vikings one the top DLs in the NFL IMHO.

23. New England (11-5) --C. Matthews. OLB-- This seems a little high for Clay, but He fills a need at OLB and is perfect for Coach Bill's defense. They have KC's early second pick to take the best OL on the board.

24. Atlanta (11-5)-- B. Pettigrew TE-- Not a great trip to Indy, but he is a stud. The ATL is going to move the ball!!(Same)

25. Miami (11-5)--B. Cushing OLB-- The Tuna usually likes run stoppers and Brain can do more than just stop the run. Cushing is a great value here.

26. Baltimore (11-5)-- H. Nicks WR--Derrick Mason(Michigan State) is getting old(Same)

27. Indianapolis (12-4)-- D. Heyward-Bey--A younger, faster Marvin(Hall of Fame). This pick makes Mr. Manning very happy!

28. Philadelphia (from Carolina) (12-4)--K. Moreno RB-- Knowshon has a complete skill set to help McNabb. He was a little slow at his Pro day today, but he is still the # 2 RB in the draft. This is also a great value pick!!

29. New York Giants (12-4)-- J. Hood DT--This guy moved his stock with a very showing at the combine. 34 reps on the bench!!!

30. Tennessee (13-3)--D. Butler CB-The Titans could go several ways, but Butler gives some depth in the secondary.

31. Arizona (9-7)--M. Johnson DE-- The Cards could go OL here, but Johnson could be a home run at this point of the first round.

32. Pittsburgh (12-4)-A. Mack OC -The steeler's need to run the football, and last year was a bit of a struggle running the ball(I will take the Steeler's struggles every day of the week, being a Lions fan). The Mack is the best Center in the draft.

Second Round

33. Detroit Lions--A. Smith CB-- The Lions in this draft could go Freeman here, but I will continue my goal of defense. Smith is quick, fast, and he can return punts/kicks. The secondary was a free for all last year for any QB, and The Lions will start at least 3 different starting players in 09'. Eben Britten OT could also be drafted here, and I would not blame them for adding another quality OT to the team.

Thrid Round

65. Detroit Lions--C. Clemons SS--This guy flew at the combine and would be a huge get for the Lions. This is the type of pick that gives teams great depth. The Lions under Millen never made these picks(Same)

82. Detroit Lions--J. Casey TE-- They fill another hole!! The Lions have not had a good TE since David "The Thrill" Hill, or maybe go back further to Hall of Famer Charlie Sanders. The Lions have added a few TEs during the FA period, but this kid could give them a future. The Lions also need a fast CB with return skills. A WR or DB with return skills would fill 2 holes.

  2. I wish this is how it would play out. The problem is that I never happens how it should. Be still very well done.

  3. The Lions are my home team, so I will focus on most of their needs.

  4. You know the Texans drafted their LT of the future in the first round last year, and signed their RT to a long extension last year, right?

Not to mention that Smith is not a good fit for their zone blocking scheme.

  5. Good points!!!

Maybe they move Smith down to a gaurd position???

Smith looks like a huge value at that spot. Maybe a trade by my Lions could happen there and they get their bookend tackle.

I think Smith can learn to block with a zone scheme. The feet might be the only problem.

    Thanks for the post

  7. Pats signed Springs, and leigh bodden, drafted wheatly early 2nd last year, have wilhite, and have ellis hobbs starting opposite corner, no way they are drafted a CB 1, or even in the first three rounds, especially with the more glaring needs of OLB and MLB, O-lines, and SS

  8. Stand corrected!! The Pats did just fill up on some FA DBs. Clay seems to come out of Bill's OLB mold.

  16. I really like the idea of the Lions picking Aaron Curry #1 as he is the best player in the draft. But then you have them going through the remainder of the first three rounds without taking an offensive lineman. And they don't have a fourth round pick. They can't do that. Their OL is a joke and if they play with the OL they have it won't matter how much they improve their defense. One of the first 3 picks must be an OT.
